TikTok app setup and review
Register the app, use the correct products and demonstrate the actual posting flow.
Register the app
1. Register the application
Open TikTok for Developers → profile menu → Manage apps
App owner
- Open the developer portal and confirm the owner account. Select Manage apps → Connect an app.
- Select the owning organization/account offered by the portal and confirm the owner.
- In App details, enter the actual app name, description, icon and website information. Use your real product identity.
- Add the Web platform and the policy links required by the form.
- Under Products, select only what the working integration uses, such as Login Kit and the applicable posting product.
- Record Client key and keep Client secret privately. In the selected product’s web settings, register the application’s exact redirect URI.
- Use URL properties to complete domain/URL ownership verification when required for that product.
Expected result The portal has the correct owner, app details, products and redirect.
If this does not happen Keep Production and Sandbox configuration separate; a Sandbox setting does not automatically configure the production submission.
| Application setting | Copy from / action |
|---|---|
| Client Key | TikTok Client key, not App ID or a generated access token. |
| Client Secret | TikTok Client secret, entered privately. |
| Callback URL | Copy from the application and register in the product’s web redirect settings. |
| Permissions | Match the scopes used by the installed feature and selected TikTok products. |
Configure the application
2. Save the TikTok settings and connect a tester
Open Your application → API Integration → TikTok
Administrator, then workspace user
- Paste the issued key into Client Key and the matching secret into Client Secret.
- Compare the displayed Callback URL with the redirect saved in TikTok. They must refer to this same installation.
- Review Permissions. Keep the profile/listing/publishing/upload scopes only for working features in this installation.
- Set Status to Enable for this test setup and select Save configuration.
- As the workspace test user, start the TikTok connection, authorize the permitted test creator and return normally to the application.
- Check the connected creator’s identity before using the posting screen.
Expected result The correct test creator is connected in the intended workspace.
If this does not happen For authorization failure, check the environment’s key/secret pair, redirect, product access and permitted testers.
Choose the posting flow
| Source-default scope | What to show |
|---|---|
| user.info.basic / user.info.profile / user.info.stats | Connection and the actual profile/statistics display that uses the data. |
| video.list | The implemented video-list feature for the authorized creator. |
| video.publish | The Direct Post workflow, including creator details, controls, explicit consent and provider result. |
| video.upload | The upload-to-inbox workflow when implemented; explain the creator’s remaining action in TikTok. |
A permission in the source default does not mean it is approved. Do not present upload-to-inbox as automatically published content.
Test Direct Post correctly
TikTok requires specific posting controls and user choices. Audit the implemented screen against the current required UX before submitting: creator identity, available privacy choices and interaction settings, editable content and explicit consent. Unaudited clients have posting/visibility restrictions; a restricted test post is not proof of public production access.
- Prepare a short original test video and connect the intended permitted creator.
- Open the actual post editor, select that creator and show the available TikTok options. If required options are missing, stop and correct the implementation before claiming compliance.
- Submit once with the user’s deliberate consent and check TikTok’s actual processing/result and visibility. Save the result reference.
Prepare and submit the review
3. Prepare the demo and submit the production review
Open TikTok app → Production → app review information
App owner
- Check your public website and active Privacy Policy and Terms of Service links. A login-only page is not the developed public website required for review.
- Review every selected Product and Scope. Remove any item without a working feature and explanation.
- For a first review, use TikTok’s supported Sandbox demonstration route. Follow the portal’s permitted tester setup.
- Record application login, TikTok authorization, creator selection, the required posting choices/consent and the actual result. The domain and app shown must match the submission.
- In the review information, explain each product/scope and attach the current recording. Check reviewer access and then use the submission action.
- Read the app’s review status/comments. If changes are requested, correct the exact item and record the changed flow before resubmitting.
- After approval, separately check the Direct Post audit/access state and test the intended visibility. Registration approval alone does not establish unrestricted public posting.
Expected result The portal records a submission and later a decision for the intended production app.
If this does not happen If the video or domain differs, align it with the current submitted app. Do not submit a mock posting interface as a working integration.
Common problems
| Problem | What to check |
|---|---|
| Website rejected | Use the developed public website and active policy links, not a bare login screen. |
| Only private/restricted posting is available | Check the client’s audit/access state and current provider restrictions. |
| Posting UX does not match requirements | Fix the actual creator/privacy/consent screen; a better video cannot replace missing controls. |
| Scopes in the video differ from submission | Align the feature, actual authorization request, selected products and demonstration. |
Source settings
These are fields and default paths found in the reviewed source version. An installed module or a source default does not prove platform approval. Copy the complete URL shown by your running installation; do not paste a path by itself into a developer console.
