LinkedIn app setup and access
Configure profile and organization-page access as separate use cases.
Create the application
1. Create the developer app and select access
Open LinkedIn Developer Portal → your applications
App owner
- Open
https://www.linkedin.com/developers/apps. Create/select the intended application under the owner account. - Complete the required app identity, organization/Page association, policy and contact details shown by the portal. Arrange any required Page-owner verification with its authorized administrator.
- Open Products and identify the access needed for member posting or organization Community Management. Do not assume the same product covers both.
- Open Auth and record Client ID. Store Client Secret privately.
- In Auth, register the full HTTPS callback copied from the application provider you will use.
Expected result The app identity, available products and exact callback match the intended integration.
If this does not happen If the required product/scopes are absent, use that product’s access request process before attempting to authorize unavailable scopes.
Configure profile or Page connection
2. Configure member or organization connection
Open Your application → API Integration → LinkedIn or LinkedIn Page
Administrator, then workspace user
- Choose LinkedIn for the member connection or LinkedIn Page for the organization connection. Check its callback; do not copy the other provider’s redirect.
- Where this source labels the fields App ID and App Secret, enter LinkedIn Client ID and Client Secret, respectively.
- Compare Permissions with the scopes actually enabled under Auth. Select Save configuration.
- Connect the permitted LinkedIn member from the workspace. Complete consent with that member.
- For a Page connection, select the intended organization managed by that member. Check its identity and run the one supported publishing/report action you need.
Expected result The intended member or organization appears and the permitted action works.
If this does not happen If a member connects but an organization action fails, check Page role, organization scopes and Community Management access separately.
| LinkedIn credential | Source label in this application |
|---|---|
| Client ID | App ID for these LinkedIn provider definitions. |
| Client Secret | App Secret, privately. |
| Auth redirect URL | Exact Callback URL for the member or Page provider. |
| Granted product/scopes | Match Permissions; source defaults do not establish a grant. |
Request the required product and tier
Request the product/tier used by organization features
Open LinkedIn developer app → Products and its access-request flow
App owner
- List the organization operation you need and compare it with the product/scopes the app currently shows.
- Use the Community Management access application when that is the required product. Complete the specific form linked by the current product-access page.
- Prepare the actual organization use case and a reproducible demonstration. Member profile posting alone does not demonstrate organization access.
- If moving from Development to Standard, use the separate upgrade route for that product when eligible. Record the actual decision and conditions.
- Check the granted product/scopes in the app, reconnect where the grant changes, and repeat the intended Page action.
Expected result The intended organization workflow has the product/tier grant it requires and a successful test.
If this does not happen If the product is pending or refused, do not request unsupported organization scopes in OAuth as a workaround.
Explain requested access
| Source-default scope/group | Feature to demonstrate |
|---|---|
| openid / profile / email or the currently configured member-identity scopes | The member connection and displayed identity actually used by this version. |
| w_member_social | An authorized member’s publishing action. |
| w_organization_social / r_organization_social | The supported organization post/read action under the granted product. |
| rw_organization_admin | The specific implemented organization-administration operation; remove it if unsupported or unnecessary. |
Only the names shown in the actual source table apply to that version. Availability and grants must be checked in your LinkedIn app.
Common problems
| Problem | What to check |
|---|---|
| Organization is not listed | Check the member’s Page role, the product access and the organization scopes. |
| Unauthorized scope | Remove unavailable scopes or obtain the required product access; do not substitute a different provider’s scope. |
| Profile works but Page fails | Compare the two providers’ callbacks, grants and organization permission requirements. |
Source settings
These are fields and default paths found in the reviewed source version. An installed module or a source default does not prove platform approval. Copy the complete URL shown by your running installation; do not paste a path by itself into a developer console.
