Admin
Languages
Change the configuration fields provided by this feature.
Step-by-step guide
Before you start
Use an administrator account for this feature.
Open this feature
Open /admin/languages on your application domain. The tasks below name the controls to use after opening the page.
Steps
Choose the locale you need and decide whether it should be available to users. Changing the default language affects the site, so keep the existing default when testing a new locale.
Add a language
- Open Languages and select Add new.
- Choose Language from the catalog. Enter the intended Name and check the selected locale.
- Choose Text direction: LTR for left-to-right text or RTL for right-to-left text.
- Choose Status, Auto translate and Default deliberately. For a test language, keep Default set to No.
- Select Create language. Check the new entry’s locale, status and direction in the list.
Edit translated interface text
- Use Translations on the intended language.
- Search for the interface text or translation key and select Search.
- Enter the intended translation in Override for the matching row. Preserve any placeholders that are present in the original text.
- Select Save changes, repeat the search and verify the stored override.
- Check the affected page using that language on a working installation.
Fields shown in the interface
| Field or setting | What to enter or choose |
|---|---|
| Name | Display name for the language, up to 255 characters. |
| Language | Choose the actual locale from the catalog. The source uses that selection for the locale code. |
| Text direction | LTR or RTL. |
| Status | Choose the intended offered state; availability to users depends on this setting. |
| Auto translate | Yes or No. This setting alone does not prove that the translation provider is configured. |
| Default | Yes or No. Do not replace the site default merely to preview a new language. |
| Override | The translated interface text for the selected key. Preserve variable placeholders. |
Check the result
- The language list shows the intended locale and settings.
- Translation search shows the saved override; the affected application page still needs a visual check.
Problems and validation
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| Locale already exists | Edit the existing language instead of adding another entry. |
| Wrong page direction | Check LTR/RTL and reload the application in that language. |
| Text did not change | Confirm the language, translation key and saved override. Some text may be provided by another module or theme. |
